This policy statement applies to all
deposit accounts.
Our policy is to make funds from your deposits available to you as described below. The
length of delay in availability varies based on the type of deposit made. When we delay
your ability to withdraw funds from a deposit, you may not withdraw the funds in cash, and
we will not pay checks you write on your account using these funds. Even after we have
made funds available to you and you have withdrawn the funds, you are still responsible
for checks you deposit that are returned to us unpaid and for any other problems involving
your deposit.
For purposes of this disclosure, the terms "you"/ "your" refer to
the depositor and the terms "our"/ "we"/ "us" refer to the
financial institution. The term "Business Day" means any day other than a
Saturday, Sunday or federally declared legal holiday. The term "Banking Day"
means that part of any Business Day on which we are open to the public for carrying on
substantially all of our banking functions.
Determining Availability of Your Deposit
When we delay your ability to withdraw funds, the length of the delay is counted in
Business Days from the day of your deposit. If you make a deposit on a Business Day that
we are open, we will consider that day to be the day of your deposit. However, if you make
a deposit on a day that we are not open, we will consider the deposit made on the next
Business Day we are open.
Same Day Availability.
Funds from electronic direct deposit or wire transfer to your account will be available
on the day we receive the deposit.
Next Day Availability.
The following types of deposits will be available to you on the first Business Day
after the Banking Day you make your deposit:
- U.S. Treasury checks that are payable to you;
- checks drawn on us.
In addition, if you make the following deposits in person to one of our employees,
these deposits will also be available on the first Business Day after your deposit:
- cash;
- state and local government checks if they are payable to you;
- Federal Reserve Bank checks, Federal Home Loan Bank checks and postal money orders if
these items are payable to you.
If you do not make your deposit in person to one of our employees, funds from these
deposits will be available on the second Business Day after the day of your deposit.
Determining Check Type
The delay for check deposits depends on whether your check is local or nonlocal. A
local check is a check drawn on a depository institution located in the same
check-processing region as our institution. You can determine whether the check you want
to deposit is a local or a nonlocal check by looking at its nine-digit ABA routing number.
This is the number printed on the lower left-hand corner of the check.
If the first four numbers on the check are [0710, 0711, 0712, 0719, 2710, 2711, 2712,
2719, or the routing number is 2719-84285] then the check is drawn on an institution in
the same check-processing region as our institution and we will consider it a LOCAL CHECK.
If the first four digits of the nine-digit ABA routing number of the check you are
depositing are not [0710, 0711, 0712, 0719, 2710, 2711, 2712, 2719] or the routing number
is not [2719-84285] then the check is drawn on an institution outside of our
check-processing region and we will consider it a NONLOCAL CHECK. Some checks are marked
"payable through" and have a four or nine-digit number nearby. For these checks,
use the four-digit number (or the first four digits of the nine-digit number) not the
routing number on the bottom of the check, to determine if the checks are local or
nonlocal. Our policy regarding the availability of local and nonlocal checks is as
follows:
Local Checks
The first $100 from a deposit of local checks will be available on the first Business
Day after the day of your deposit. The remaining funds will be available on the second
Business Day after the day of your deposit.
Nonlocal Checks
The first $100 from a deposit of nonlocal checks will be available on the first
Business Day after the day of your deposit. The remaining funds will be available no later
than the fifth Business Day after the day of your deposit. If you deposit both categories
of checks, $100 from the checks will be available on the first Business Day after the day
of your deposit, not $100 from each category of checks.
Longer Delays May Apply
In some cases, we will not make all of the funds that you deposit by check available to
you according to the previously stated availability schedule. Depending on the type of
check that you deposit, funds may not be available until the fifth Business Day after the
day of your deposit. However, the first $100 of your deposits will be available on the
first Business Day.
If we are not going to make all of the funds from your deposit available according to
the previously stated availability schedule, we will notify you at the time you make the
deposit. We will also tell you when the funds will be available. If your deposit is not
made directly to one of our employees, or we decide to take this action after you have
left the premises, we will mail you the notice by the day after we receive your deposit.
Funds you deposit by check may be delayed for a longer period under the following
circumstances:
- If we believe the check being deposited is uncollectible;
- If you make check deposits in any one day that exceed $5,000;
- If you redeposit a check that has been returned unpaid;
- for repeated overdrafts, i.e. if on six or more Banking Days within the preceding
six-month period, your account balance was negative or your account would have been
negative if checks or other charges had been paid; or, if on two or more Banking Days
within the preceding six-month period, your account balance was negative or your account
balance would have been negative in the amount of $5,000 or more if checks or other
charges had been paid;
- if an emergency condition arises that would not enable us to make the funds available to
you, such as failure of communications or computer equipment.
We will notify you if we delay your ability to withdraw funds and will tell you when
you will be able to withdraw the funds. Funds will generally be available no later than
eleven Business Days after the day of your deposit.
Special Rules for New Accounts
If you are a new member, the following special rules will apply during the first 30
days your account is open:
Funds from electronic direct deposits into your account will be available on the day we
receive the deposit. Funds from deposit of cash, wire transfers, and the first $5,000 of a
day's total deposits of cashier's, certified, teller's, traveler's, and federal, state and
local government checks will be available on the first business day after the day of your
deposit if the deposit meets certain conditions. For example, the checks must be payable
to you (and you may have to use a special deposit slip). The excess over $5,000 will be
available on the ninth business day after the day of your deposit. If your deposit of
these checks (other than a U.S. Treasury check) is not made in person to one of our
employees, the first $5,000 will not be available until the second business day after the
day of your deposit. Funds from all other check deposits will be available on the tenth
business day after the day of your deposit.
